September means it’s back to school time — and National Bourbon Heritage Month. Get into the spirit — or soothe your end-of-summer blues —with Whiskeys on the Water’s variation on the traditional Manhattan. The Teacher’s Pet is appropriately served with the motto, “Time to sit up and pay attention!” Simple, strong, and subtly sweet, this cocktail with a twist could be a new fall favorite.

Ingredients

Ice
1 ½ ounces Makers Mark bourbon
½ ounce Gallo sweet vermouth
½ ounce Gallo extra dry vermouth
2 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
Maraschino cherry and orange slice

Directions

Fill a rocks glass with ice. Pour inMakers Mark or your favorite bourbon (we loved it with Bulleit Kentucky Straight), both vermouths, and dashes of bitters. Stir vigorously. Garnish with maraschino cherry and an orange slice.
