Turkey Day is right around the corner, and so is Detroit鈥檚 favorite Thanksgiving tradition, . This 98th annual event, which is presented by Gardner White, hits the streets of Detroit on Nov. 28, 2024, with area marching bands, floats, big heads, clowns, and more.
The day kicks off with the Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot at 7:30 a.m. Racers can pick from three races: the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Mashed Potato Mile, the Strategic Staffing Solutions Stuffing Strut 5K, and the Strategic Staffing Solutions 10K Turkey Trot. They may also double-up on races if they choose.
Registration is open through Nov. 27, 2024, and runs $35-$75, depending on the race. Racers are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday garb. All runners and walkers will receive a long-sleeve race shirt and medal.
The parade steps off at 8:45 a.m. at Kirby and Woodward and makes its way three miles down Woodward Ave. to Congress. This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淢iles of Smiles.鈥
Among the line-up this year are marching bands from area high schools, giant balloons, clowns, big heads, floats from area businesses, and of course, Santa Claus.
America鈥檚 Thanksgiving Day Parade, presented by Gardner White, airs live on WDIV 鈥 Local 4. from 9 a.m. to noon. 104.3 WOMC will also narrate the event. A full list of stations covering this year鈥檚 parade will be available the week of Nov. 25.
You may also watch in-person along the parade鈥檚 route. Limited seating is available, get there early to get a good spot. The parade is free to watch, but fees apply for reserved seating in the grandstands.
