The Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) in Detroit is turning 10 years old, and they are celebrating a decade of science fun with their 鈥淧owers of 10鈥 anniversary initiative.
This initiative, which came through a partnership between Mi-Sci and , supports Detroit residents, K-12 teachers, and students, along with underserved communities in the area, with a year of educational activities.
It all kicks off on Dec. 26, 2022, with $10 admission for all guests of the science center. Detroit residents will continue to enjoy reduced admission to the science hub through Jan. 6, 2023.
In addition, students who participate in Mi-Sci鈥檚 Aramco Traveling Science Programs will get one free youth ticket to the science center, and in June, Mi-Sci will launch a community membership program that will be free to all libraries and social service agencies in Detroit.
鈥淭he Powers of 10 is a mathematical concept that centers on the exponential potential of the number 10 and the use of scientific notation to express it,鈥 Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center said in a press release. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not always easy or affordable for some communities and schools to visit us. But, thanks to the generous support from Aramco for Mi-Sci鈥檚 Powers of 10 anniversary year in 2023, we will be able to put even more people at the center of science.鈥
The Michigan Science Center opened in 2012 and features more than 220 interactive exhibits including the climate exhibit Earth. Wind. Weather. and the temporary gaming exhibit, Level Up. It also offers live science demonstrations, the Toyota 4D Engineering Theater, a planetarium, and an IMAX Dome Theater.
Mi-Sci welcomes more than 250,000 guests a year and has inspired more than half a million K-8 students to explore STEM since its opening a decade ago.
