Michigan Science Center Welcomes New ‘Level Up’ Exhibit

The exhibit opens on Oct. 19 and features a variety of video and analog games, along with the temporary exhibition, Electric Playhouse Travels.

Are you or your kids into gaming? Turn your fun hobby into a valuable educational experience at the ’s newest exhibit, , sponsored by General Motors.

This 8,000-square-foot prototype exhibit, which is set to open on Oct. 19, features five interactive game rooms, each of which teaches different skills that come in handy for everyday life.

In the Video Games room, guests can play Portal 2 and learn problem-solving skills as they work as a team to “design experiments and implement solutions while applying advanced physics.”

The board games in the Analog Games room will teach about STEM without the technology component. Meanwhile, in the Virtual Reality room, museum guests will immerse themselves in tech as they explore computer-generated simulations, and in the Arcade Room, they can rediscover classic arcade games with a twist —you’re playing on floor and ceiling projections, and your body is the controller.

Level Up also features The Ames Room, which is trapezoidal room designed to challenge your perceptions of reality by removing all visual cues and creating optical illusions.Plus, the temporary installation, , which features two arenas, and four smaller pods, filled with STEAM-inspired games and plenty of room for selfies.

Level Up will open on Oct. 19, 2022, and will remain open through June of 2023. Electric Playhouse Travels will be open through Jan. 3, 2023.

The Michigan Science Center is located at , and is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. General admission is $18 for adults, and $14 for kids ages 2-15 and seniors 65-plus.
