Starting Nov. 9, the Robert and Mary Bury Community Gallery in the will transform into 鈥淭oy Town,鈥 the 鈥檚 2024 holiday exhibition. It will include a variety of iconic toys, including Matchbox Cars and Raggedy Anne dolls, ranging from the 1800s through the 1990s.
To help launch 鈥淭oy Town,鈥 the Detroit Historical Society invited the public to participate in its creation by asking to borrow some of their vintage toys and collecting Detroit toy stories.
In addition, the Detroit Historical Society will feature interesting stories from workers of toy manufacturing companies such as Tucker Toys, American Plastic Toys, All Metal Products also known as Wyandotte Toys, and workers from the 12th Floor Toy Department at J. L. Hudson鈥檚.
鈥淭oy Town鈥 will be opening in tandem with the release of the , the next community edition Monopoly game alongside , , and more.
The launch of the game will be Nov. 8 at the Detroit Historical Museum鈥檚 Streets of Old Detroit private event. The game will be on sale at the Detroit Historical Museum store, and Mr. Monopoly will make a guest appearance at the 鈥淭oy Town鈥 exhibition opening.
鈥淭oy Town鈥 will be on display from Nov. 9, 2024, to Jan. 5, 2025, at the Detroit Historical Museum, open Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Expect to pay $10 for adult general admission; $8 for seniors, students, active military and first responders; $6 for children. The museum is free for children under 6 years old.
