The Pure Michigan campaign is celebrating 15 years. To commemorate the occasion, Travel Michigan 鈥 a tourism division of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. 鈥 has released six limited-edition prints by Ann Arbor artist Brian Walline that highlight destinations across the state. The Ann Arbor artist is the owner of The Mighty Mitten, a studio that produces vintage-themed posters, apparel, wood art, greeting cards, and more.
鈥淪ummertime in Michigan is a truly wonderful time to get out and explore the Great Lakes state. From unmatched outdoor destinations to bustling city settings, from the northern tip of the Upper Peninsula to the southern border of the Mitten, there is something here for everyone to enjoy,鈥 says Dave Lorenz, vice president of Travel Michigan, in a press release. 鈥淲e are excited to collaborate with the Mighty Mitten to showcase the beauty of Michigan and continue inspiring travel to our state for many more years to come.鈥
The prints illustrate the Mackinac Bridge, Pictured Rocks, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Grand Rapids, Lake of the Clouds, and Detroit 鈥 the latter features the Ambassador Bridge and the city skyline. Prints, which are available for purchase on The Mighty Mitten website, are available in five sizes and range from $20-$75. The pieces are printed on high-quality paper, signed by Walline, and feature the Pure Michigan 15th anniversary logo.
鈥淭he Pure Michigan campaign is part of what inspired me to begin thinking about my love for our state and how I wanted to try to express it,鈥 Walline says in a press release. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 really sing, so drawing scenes inspired by old National Parks posters seemed more my speed. Years later, I鈥檓 excited to intertwine my story with Pure Michigan in some small way, and to assemble a collection of my work that attempts to represent the range and diversity of our state鈥檚 beauty and wonder.鈥
Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of the limited-edition prints will be donated to Michigan Cares for Tourism, a nonprofit that restores historic, cultural, and natural sites in the state.
Travel Michigan, which launched in late May, has even more in store for the campaign鈥檚 15 years. The anniversary celebration will continue throughout 2021 with additional partnerships and special announcements.
